Watermelon and Elderberry Basil Vodka Tonic

Summa Salt Product-Elderberry Basil Salt

Serving size: 2

Ingredients:

  1. 1-1.5 tablespoons of Summa Salt’s Elderberry Basil Salt

  2. 2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and seeds removed

  3. 4 ounces  vodka

  4. 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, plus extra for garnish

  5. 1 tablespoon lime juice

  6. 1 teaspoon honey or simple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

  7. 8 ounces tonic water or club soda

  8. Ice cubes

  9. Lime wedges, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Glass Rim:

  • Place a small amount of water or juice on a plate. Dip the glass on the plate to wet the rim of the glass.

  • Dip the glass in the Summa Salt Elderberry Basil Salt rimmer container and roll the top of the glass into the salt until fully covered.

  • Set aside.

  1. Prepare the Watermelon Juice:

  • In a blender or food processor, blend the cubed watermelon until smooth.

  • Strain the watermelon puree through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove the pulp. Set the watermelon juice aside.

  1. Muddle the Basil:

  • In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh basil leaves and muddle gently to release the oils and aroma.

  1. Mix the Cocktail:

  • Add the vodka, lime juice, and honey or simple syrup (if using) to the shaker.

  • Pour in the strained watermelon juice.

  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake well until the mixture is chilled.

  1. Assemble the Drink:

  • Fill two highball glasses with ice cubes.

  • Strain the watermelon-basil-vodka mixture evenly into the glasses.

  • Top each glass with tonic water and stir gently to combine.

  1. Garnish and Serve:

  • Garnish each drink with a sprig of fresh basil and a lime wedge.

If you do not have a shaker, feel free to simply enjoy the drink directly on ice. Enjoy!
